Cultural Diversity

At TMS we:

  • Reflect the cultural identity and diverse interests of each person served in the programs and plans that we develop with them and their support network (e.g. Individual Service Plans);
  • Learn about the individuals who participate in our programs by: asking questions, establishing baseline data and gathering feedback;
  • Learn about the people who work with us to provide services by: asking questions, establishing baseline data and gathering feedback;
  • Consider culture, age, gender, sexual orientation, spiritual beliefs, socioeconomic status and language when developing plans and implementing programs;
  • Appoint a Cultural Liaison Officer with the training, experience and interest to guide us in improving multicultural and diversity competency;
  • Provide staff with learning opportunities that promote awareness of multicultural and identity competency;
  • Provide both informal and formal complaint resolution processes to all stakeholders;
  • Acknowledge that diversity is ever changing as are the needs of the populations we support;
  • Review our policies annually to ensure that we are implementing best practices and set new objectives;
